It's hard to find a more gorgeous trail than the Dookie Rail Trail. A bitumen road, although a short one at only 4.7 kilometres in length (9.4kms return). The trail begins at the foot of Mt. Saddleback and winds through some of the best farmland in the Goulburn Valley.
After a short, easy ascent, you'll get a magnificent panorama of Mt. Major to the south and Gentle Annie hill to the south-east. After making your way slowly across the range, you'll arrive at the Yabba flats, home to several farms, orchards, wineries, and fields of famous Dookie Red loams.
Bear in mind that there may be wild animals around.
Maintain a sharp lookout! At the third crossroads (Hooper's Rd), 'Willy the Wombat' lives in a den he dug in the under-road drain, so you might see him if you're lucky.
Echidnas, Blue Tongue Lizards, Kangaroos, and even two Wedge-Tailed Eagles have all been spotted, in addition to the ubiquitous Koala. Not to mention the possums, fantastic bird life, and the occasional rabbit that inhabit the trees along the trail and there are always sheep, and often lambs, in the paddocks nearby, albeit they are not so wild. Try to find the camels!

Park History:
A significant amount of degraded agricultural and public property within the bounds of the Town of Kyabram had been used as a "unofficial" tip site for some 80 years prior to the 1967 Public Meetings conducted to consider the best way to develop and utilise this land.
Areas of the property were put to use collecting storm water runoff, while other parts were permitted to deteriorate and become unusable. At these gatherings, the concept of creating a Wildlife Park was discussed, and after consensus was reached, the Kyabram Fauna Park was established.
The Park encompasses around 55 hectares of open woods, wetlands, and lakes and is situated in the Goulburn Valley in Northern Victoria. RVs are welcome at our park. Over 140 native bird, mammal, and amphibian species are currently found in the Park thanks to the rehabilitation of degraded lands and re-vegetation efforts for several regions of the Park. The Park is an exceptional and one-of-a-kind public space, and it features permanent exhibitions of 145 different species of Australian animals, birds, and reptiles.
The Nestlé Invertebrate Exhibition is a must-see, with fascinating displays of spiders, scorpions, and stick insects.
The park's flora are undergoing fantastic conservation and education efforts. Over 250 kinds of native plants, grasses, and trees—including some Eucalypts older than 250 years—are on display.
Between Albury and the ocean, the Murray River is extremely swift in a region known as the "Narrows" or the "Barmah Choke," which Kingfisher must navigate. Barmah National Park in Victoria is on one side of the Murray River, and the Moira, Millewa, and Gulpa Forests in New South Wales are on the other. Together, these four forests make up the biggest concentration of River Red Gums in the world. There are around 500 plant species and 236 bird species that call this area home. The Barmah Lake is also visited on the two-hour cruises when water levels permit, and a brief land excursion is included.
During your tour of the Barmah Wetlands and Forest, your certified eco guide will provide you with fascinating commentary on the hundreds of species of water birds, animals, and native fish that call the Barmah Wetlands and Forest home, as well as the myths and legends associated with this extraordinary place.

Trail Along The Murchison Railroad
This 8-kilometer stretch of route runs alongside the rare environment of the Doctor's Swamp wetlands and connects the Murchison Township with the rail bridge on Channel Inlet Road. The trail crosses the freshly renovated historic bridge over the Stuart Murray Canal.
In 1890, the Shepparton railway extended from Murchison East to the copper mining town of Rushworth, and again in 1914, the route was extended to Colbinabbin. When the railway to Girgarre was built in 1917, Rushworth became a major intersection. When the Waranga Basin was built, the line had to be rerouted. By 1987, all lines had been disconnected.
On the western edge of the swamp, near the picnic spot maintained by Parks Victoria, the path provides convenient access. The path eventually leads to Channel Inlet Road, from which you may reach Waranga Basin with ease. When finished, the path will stretch for 19 kilometres.
